This year, 163 coastal towns around Italy were awarded the Blue Flag Beach eco-label, with the region of Liguria and the Italian Riviera represented by 27 award-winning locations.

The region of Liguria begins at the Franco-Italian border town of Ventimiglia and extends to Tuscany. In 2017, it has secured 57 Blue Flags for its beaches. A total of 342 Italian beaches were given the seal of approval for good environmental quality and cleanliness by the Foundation for Environmental Education (Fee) compared to 293 in 2016.
