Towns and cities across the French Riviera woke up to more winter wonderland this morning than a region that seemed to be welcoming in spring. Snow is expected throughout the day and temperatures as low as -11°C have been recorded in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur during the early hours of Monday.
This particularly cold bout of weather will continue for the next few days – a strong chill will be felt on Wednesday – but it is on Monday that conditions are the iciest. The departments of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Alpes-Maritimes and Var are all on orange alert until 10pm.
Météo France estimates that during the day, there will be 2cm of snow on the coast, between 5 and 10cm further inland and up to 20cm in the heart of the Var and hinterland of the Alpes-Maritimes.
What are conditions like where you are?
