Acid attack burns tourists

Origin of the liquid unknown

A young Italian couple from Cuneo were taking a walk on Boyer Avenue in Menton yesterday morning when they were horribly burnt by a substance resembling acid.

It apparently fell from the apartment above.

The man reportedly suffered the brunt of it, with the liquid burning through his T-shirt and causing deep wounds on his face, shoulders and back. According to witnesses, he jumped into a nearby fountain to ease the pain. The woman’s injuries were comparatively minor. They are both being treated at the St-Roch Hospital in Nice.

The cause of the incident is unknown. The apartment building it came from is largely uninhabited, according to police, who have not ruled out the possibility of a simple accident.
